The LS2 Advant X (FF901) is a modular motorcycle helmet with a chin bar that rotates a full 180 degrees to rest behind the head, so the same helmet can be ridden as either a full face or an open face. The shell is high performance fiberglass composite (HPFC) and the helmet weighs 1600 g plus or minus 50 g. It is certified to ECE 22.06, ECE P and J (dual open and full face homologation), and DOT FMVSS 218. Sizes run XS through 3XL across two shell sizes, and every helmet ships with a Pinlock 120XLT MaxVision insert, a dark smoke shield, and a carrying bag.
What this helmet is built for
The Advant X is aimed at riders who want one helmet for mixed use: closed up on the highway, opened up in traffic, at fuel stops, or on slow city miles. Because it carries both the ECE P (protective chin bar) and J (open face) ratings, it is legal to ride in either position rather than only for stopping. The tradeoff for that versatility is weight and cost: at roughly 3 lb 8 oz it is heavier than a comparable full face, and the rotating mechanism adds parts that a fixed-chin helmet does not have.

How to measure for helmet fit
Measuring your head is the right place to start, but it is only a guideline. Different head shapes can require a slightly smaller or larger helmet in any given model, so trying on the specific model is always recommended. A helmet should be as snug as possible without being tight enough to cause a headache. Being fitted in person by a professional is the most reliable method.
Measure the circumference of your head with a tape measure, or with a length of string that you then line up against a ruler.
Start above the ear and circle all the way around, resting the tape about a half inch above the eyebrows and across the fullest part of the back of the head.
Measure several times so you do not end up with a reading that is too small or too large.
Compare your measurement to the size chart. If you fall between two sizes, take the larger size.

Common questions
Can the Advant X be ridden with the chin bar rotated back?
Yes. It carries ECE P certification as a full face and ECE J certification as an open face, which means it is homologated for riding in either position rather than only for stopping.
Does the Advant X come with a Pinlock insert?
Yes. A Pinlock 120XLT MaxVision anti-fog insert is included in the box, along with a dark smoke shield and a carrying bag.
Does it have an internal sun visor?
Yes. A drop-down sunshield is built into the shell and operates from a hidden sliding button. It can be removed without tools using the easy-remove mechanism.
How much does the Advant X weigh?
1600 g plus or minus 50 g, roughly 3 lb 8 oz. That is heavier than a typical fiberglass full face, which is the usual tradeoff for a modular chin bar mechanism.
What size shell will I get?
The Advant X uses two shells. Sizes XS through L share one shell, and XL through 3XL share the other, with five EPS densities and seven liner sizes spread across the range to keep proportions correct.
Can I change the fit without changing helmet size?
To a degree. Cheek pads are available in slim and standard thickness in three size groups, and the liner is sold separately in seven sizes, so the interior can be adjusted within a shell size.
Do Advant X parts fit the standard Advant?
Shields and Pinlock inserts do not. Advant X shields and inserts do not fit the Advant FF906, and Advant KPA shields do not fit the Advant X or Advant X Carbon. The inner drop-down sunshield is the exception and fits Advant, Advant II, Advant X, and Advant X Carbon.

The internal drop down Speedview® sun-visor allows you to adjust to changing lighting conditions throughout the day. Additionally, the no-fog Everclear® face shield can be removed and you can use the EXO-AT960 with goggles for off-road use. Three shell sizes made of Advanced LG® Polycarbonate and dual density EPS, result in a helmet that is light weight, strong, and protective. For those who need to stay connected, the EXO-AT960 was specifically designed to integrate with the new EXO-COM® BlueTooth® Communicator Kit while the large speaker pockets also make it compatible with many other com systems in the market.

A modular helmet is a full face helmet with a chin bar and shield that lift as one piece, so you can open the front without taking the helmet off. That makes it the easiest style to wear with glasses and the most popular choice for touring, where you stop often for fuel, food, and directions. The cost is a little extra weight and a mechanism that can eventually wear.
Frequently Asked Questions About Modular Helmets
Can I ride with the chin bar up?
It depends on the helmet, and this is the one modular question worth checking per model rather than assuming. Some modulars are certified for use in the closed position only, and riding with the chin bar up puts you outside what the helmet was tested for. Others are certified in both positions and are designed to be ridden open. Even on a helmet that allows it, an open chin bar adds drag and lift at speed and gets noisy quickly. Most riders use the lift for stops, fuel, and conversation rather than for riding. Check the manufacturer documentation for your specific model.
What does a P/J rating on a modular helmet mean?
P and J are markings from the European ECE standard that describe which positions a modular was tested in. P means the chin bar was tested as protective, the way a full face chin bar is. J means jet, the open face configuration, where the chin bar is not treated as protective. A helmet marked P/J passed both, meaning it is approved to ride closed or open. A helmet marked P only is approved closed. This marking appears on ECE-certified helmets rather than on DOT-only ones, so not every modular will show it. When it is present, it is the clearest answer to whether you can ride with the chin bar up.
Are modular helmets heavier than full face helmets?
Yes, generally. A modular carries a hinge, a latch, and the structure to support a chin bar that moves, and all of that adds weight compared to a full face of similar quality. The gap is usually modest and matters most on long days, where extra weight shows up as neck fatigue rather than as something you notice putting the helmet on. Shell material narrows it: a composite modular can weigh about the same as a polycarbonate full face. If weight is your top priority, a full face wins. If you want to open the helmet without taking it off, the trade is usually worth it.
Are modular helmets easier to wear with glasses?
Yes, and for many riders who wear glasses this is the reason to choose a modular. With the chin bar lifted you put the helmet on first and your glasses on second, so the frames never have to slide past the cheek pads. That removes the most common source of eyewear discomfort in a full face, where the temples get pushed into the sides of your head on the way in. It also means you can take glasses off at a stop without removing the helmet. Fit still matters, so bring the glasses you actually ride in when you come to our Lakewood store.
Do modular helmets leak or whistle at the hinge?
A modular has more seams than a full face, so there are more places for wind and water to find, but modern seals handle this well and a good modular is not noticeably drafty. Noise is the more common complaint, and it usually comes from the shield seal or the bottom edge of the helmet rather than from the chin bar hinge itself. Fit matters more than design here: a helmet that is slightly loose lets air move around inside and that reads as noise. If a modular whistles, check that the shield is fully latched and that the helmet is the right size before blaming the mechanism.
Are modular helmets good for touring?
Modulars are the most popular touring choice for a reason. On a long day you stop often, and being able to lift the chin bar for fuel, food, directions, or a conversation without unfastening anything adds up. They also tend to have generous speaker pockets and clean mounting points for a communication system, which matters on trips where you are talking to a passenger or a group. Many include a drop-down internal sun visor, so you handle changing light without carrying a spare shield. The costs are the extra weight and a mechanism that can eventually wear. For riders covering real distance, most consider that a fair trade.
