Before You Select a Size: Helmet-Fit Facts
A helmet is one of the most important pieces of riding gear you will choose, and the size printed on the label is only a starting point. Head circumference, head shape, crown contact, cheek-pad pressure and the retention system all affect whether a helmet fits correctly. Two helmets marked the same size can fit very differently—even within the same brand.
Measure around the widest part of your head, keeping the tape level and approximately one inch above your eyebrows.
A new helmet should feel evenly snug around the entire head without sharp or painful pressure points.
When you move the helmet gently from side to side, your skin should move with the liner rather than the helmet sliding independently.
Fasten the retention system and confirm that the helmet cannot roll forward or lift off the head.
Wear the helmet for several minutes before deciding. Comfort padding may settle with use, but an incorrect shell shape or painful pressure point is unlikely to be solved by choosing blindly.
Why Come to Eagle Leather for a Helmet Fitting?
Our staff is trained to help with helmet fitting and can help you compare head shape, size, pressure points and retention across different models. Inventory changes daily, but Eagle Leather consistently carries many hundreds of helmets—often approaching 1,000 units—across half-shell, open-face, modular, adventure and full-face styles. That selection gives you the opportunity to compare brands and internal shapes instead of relying on a size label alone.
For such an important piece of riding gear, we encourage you to visit Eagle Leather for an in-person fitting before selecting a size without trying the helmet on.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEAD SIZE
To determine where you fall on SHOEI's sizing chart (as a starting point for proper helmet fit), pass a soft, flexible tape measure horizontally around your head at a height of approximately one inch (2.5cm) above your eyebrows (the largest measurement around your forehead).
Select the helmet size that is closest to your head measurement from the sizing guidelines above. If your head measurement falls between two helmet sizes, first try on the smaller of the two helmets.
THE PERFECT FIT
No helmet can protect the wearer against all unforeseeable high- and low-speed impacts. However, to help maximize head protection, the helmet must fit properly, and the retention system must be securely fastened under the chin. Failure to ride with a proper fitting helmet and securely fastened chinstrap is dangerous, as the helmet could come off during an accident, resulting in severe head trauma or death.

The Shoei GT Air 3 is a premium full face touring helmet built for riders who want long distance comfort, quiet air management, integrated sun protection, and modern communication capability without giving up a sporty feel. Shoei refined nearly every major system from the previous GT Air 2, then validated the design in its in house wind tunnel.
What changed from the GT Air 2
The reshaped shell and spoiler reduce aerodynamic drag while improving stability at highway speed. Shoei reports approximately 6 percent less wind resistance and 11 percent less lift than the GT Air 2. The ventilation system places the intake ports directly in the air stream and uses internal EPS channels to move fresh air through the helmet more effectively. The center locking shield system is easier to operate with either hand, and the internal sun visor provides about 5 millimeters more coverage.
Shell and impact management
Advanced Integrated Matrix shell combines fiberglass and organic fibers for strength with controlled elasticity
Multi density EPS liner is tuned to manage impact energy across different areas of the helmet
Emergency Quick Release System allows trained responders to remove the cheek pads more easily
DOT approved for street use
Aerodynamics and ventilation
The compact shell shape, molded rear spoiler, and carefully controlled surface transitions were developed to reduce buffeting and lift in real riding positions. A large chin intake and upper intake feed air into channels molded through the EPS liner. Warm air exits through the rear exhaust system. The front vent includes a removable insect filter for easier cleaning.
CNS 1C shield system
Optically accurate shield design helps minimize distortion
Blocks more than 99 percent of harmful ultraviolet light
Center locking tab provides an even seal around the eye port
Micro opening position allows controlled airflow when extra defogging is needed
Tool free shield removal makes cleaning and replacement simple
Pinlock EVO anti fog insert is included
QSV 2 internal sun visor
The enlarged internal sun visor offers about 5 millimeters more coverage than the prior design. It deploys with a smooth external slider and retracts fully into the shell when not needed. The visor is designed to preserve the helmet’s protective liner rather than reducing EPS thickness around the eye area.
Comfort for long rides
The removable and washable three dimensional interior uses moisture managing fabrics in high contact areas. Replaceable center pads and cheek pads allow fit tuning over the life of the helmet. A stainless steel micro ratchet closure provides secure, repeatable adjustment, while the 21 millimeter chin strap helps spread pressure comfortably. A breath guard and chin curtain help manage fog and lower edge turbulence.
Communication ready
Shoei Comlink integration provides a clean mounting area for the optional Sena SRL3 communication system. The helmet remains streamlined when the system is installed, with controls and speakers positioned specifically for this shell.
Included with the helmet
Pinlock EVO anti fog insert
Breath guard
Chin curtain

To determine the proper helmet fit and learn how to safely secure your chinstrap retention system, we recommend viewing SHOEI's "Helmet Fit" video below, or consult with an authorized SHOEI dealer today. Proper fit is important not only for comfort, but for safety, as well.

SHOEI RF SR 2 Full Face Motorcycle Helmet
The SHOEI RF SR 2 takes the proven everyday performance of the original RF SR and refines the areas riders notice most on the road. Its updated aerodynamic profile improves stability at speed, larger vent controls make airflow easier to adjust with gloves, and the renewed interior provides a softer, more comfortable feel for daily commutes and longer rides.
What Has Improved Over the RF SR
More refined aerodynamics: The revised shell shape is designed to reduce drag and lift compared with the previous model, helping the helmet feel more stable and less tiring at highway speeds.
Better ventilation control: The familiar three intake and two exhaust vent layout now uses larger, easier to operate shutters. Partial open positions let riders fine tune airflow instead of choosing only fully open or fully closed.
Updated interior comfort: The removable and washable 3D interior uses soft brushed fabric for a smoother feel against the skin. Optional cheek pads and center pads allow the fit to be adjusted more precisely.
Current safety certification: The RF SR 2 meets Snell M2025D and DOT FMVSS No. 218 standards.
Proven Features That Carry Forward
AIM+ shell construction: Multiple layers of fiberglass and organic fibers provide a strong balance of impact performance, flexibility, and manageable weight.
CWR 1 shield system: The optically clear shield works with the QR E base plate for quick shield changes and precise shield adjustment.
Pinlock EVO lens included: The supplied DKS301 insert helps resist fogging in cold, damp, or changing riding conditions.
Adjustable 3D interior: The center pad and cheek pads can be removed for washing or replaced with optional thicknesses to personalize the fit.
Balanced road weight: Approximately 3.49 pounds or 1,593 grams in a medium solid color helmet.
Made for Everyday Street Riding
The RF SR 2 is designed for riders who want premium SHOEI construction without moving into a race focused or touring focused helmet. It is a strong choice for commuting, weekend rides, and extended highway travel, with practical improvements that make the helmet easier to live with on every ride.

A full face helmet is a one-piece helmet with a fixed chin bar covering the head, face, and jaw. It offers the most coverage of any style and is the quietest at highway speed, which makes it the most practical choice for Pacific Northwest riding, where rain and cold shorten more rides than anything else. The trade is heat at a standstill and a little more effort getting glasses on.
Frequently Asked Questions About Full Face Helmets
Do full face helmets fog up in the rain?
Full face helmets fog when warm breath meets a cold shield, which in Pacific Northwest riding means most of the year. The standard fix is a Pinlock insert, a second lens that seals to the inside of the shield with an air gap between the layers, so the inner surface stays close to your body temperature and does not reach the dew point. Cracking the shield open at a stoplight helps in the moment but soaks the inside in rain. Most current full face helmets are Pinlock-ready, meaning the shield has the pins already fitted, and some include the insert in the box. Inserts are model specific, so check which one your shield takes before ordering.
How do I know which head shape I need?
Helmet shells are built to different head shapes, usually described as round, intermediate oval, and long oval, and intermediate oval fits the largest share of riders. Circumference tells you the size; shape tells you whether it will actually be comfortable. The symptom of the wrong shape is pressure at the forehead and the back of the head with gaps at the sides, or the reverse. If a shell shape fits but the size falls between two, cheek pads come in different thicknesses on many brands, so you can take the shell that fits your skull and tune the fit at the cheeks. We fit every helmet in our Lakewood store before purchase.
Can I wear glasses with a full face helmet?
Yes, but fit matters more than with any other helmet style, because a full face has to slide over your head and past the temples of your glasses. Some helmets have channels cut into the cheek pads for eyewear and some do not, and a helmet that fits your head perfectly can still push your frames into your temples on a long ride. The reliable way to sort this is to bring the glasses you actually ride in to our Lakewood store and try helmets with them on. Sizing charts cannot tell you this.
Are full face helmets too hot in summer?
A full face helmet is warmer than an open face or half helmet at a stop, and the difference mostly disappears once you are moving and the vents are working. What matters is the venting: a chin vent for the shield and your face, brow or top vents feeding channels through the liner, and rear exhaust ports pulling air out. A well-vented full face at 45 mph is comfortable in Washington summers. If most of your riding is slow, in-town, or stop-and-go traffic, a modular you can open at lights is a reasonable trade for slightly more weight.
Can I replace or tint the shield on a full face helmet?
Yes. Face shields are wear items on a full face helmet and are meant to be swapped when scratched, hazed, or when you want a different tint. Most modern helmets use a tool-less mechanism, so a shield change takes under a minute once you know the motion. Shields are model specific rather than universal, so you need the one made for your exact helmet. On tint, know the rules where you ride, because they vary by state. Washington requires eye protection to be clear or, if tinted, not used from a half hour after sunset until a half hour before sunrise, or any time visibility drops below 500 feet, which includes heavy rain and fog. That covers a lot of Pacific Northwest riding. A clear shield is the safe default, and a drop-down internal sun visor gives you tint on demand without carrying a spare.
What is the difference between a $200 and a $600 full face helmet?
Both meet the same certification, so the money is not buying a higher safety rating. It buys shell material, and everything that follows from it. A polycarbonate shell is injection molded and heavier. A composite shell made from fiberglass, carbon, or a blend is lighter, which reduces neck fatigue over a long day, and it usually comes in more shell sizes, so a small helmet is genuinely small rather than a large shell packed with thicker padding. Higher-end helmets also tend to have better sealed shields, quieter aerodynamics, and better liners. If you ride an hour a week, the difference is comfort. If you ride all day, it is fatigue.
