Read moreTwenty-five years since Eagle Leather was founded
Hurrah! It’s our anniversary. In fact it’s our silver anniversary. It has been twenty-five years. Yes, twenty-five years since Eagle Leather was founded. Over that time, we have had many great experiences worthy of celebration. But 2020, most can agree, has not had many moments worthy of celebration. From stay home- stay healthy orders, to limited reopening of small businesses, to the political turmoil of the election, many are ready to get back to normal. Unfortunately, we cannot predict what that will be. Usually a 25th Anniversary is a big celebration, but this year we cannot celebrate the way we want to.
Read moreIf your gear isn’t fitting well...
You don’t have to buy gear at Eagle Leather to have it repaired or altered here. In fact, most of our sewing jobs are done on gear that wasn’t purchased here. If your gear isn’t fitting well (maybe it’s those fifteen safe-at-home pounds) or has a hole here or there, or the seams are fraying—whatever it needs—bring it to the master-sewers in the Eagle Leather sewing department.
Read moreA good time to buy Raingear
This time of year is a good time to buy rain gear. Here at Eagle Leather, we have a lot of rain gear on sale, some with very deep discounts indeed. For example, this black rain suit has a mesh lining to keep you cool as well as dry. The collar and hood are removable, so you don’t have their bulk around your neck when you don’t need it. In the back a 3-1/2-inch wide reflective stripe adds to your visibility and also conceals an air vent. The pants have stirrups to prevent riding up and removable suspenders to prevent falling down. The waist band is elastic for comfortable fit. Velcro closings at the bottoms of the legs are easy and quick to use. The inner calves have a heat-resistant material. The suit comes with a small sack you can stuff it into for storage. Right now, this rain suit is ten percent off.
Read moreThe 2020 Oyster Run has been cancelled!
Usually at this time of year, the Eagle Leather staff is happily getting ready to set up the tent and load it with gear. But not now. The 2020 Oyster Run has been cancelled. You can support the Oyster Run by purchasing limited edition apparel and patches for “The Year that Never Was” here: . Plans are already being made for next year. And at Eagle Leather, you can come into the store (or order online for curbside pickup) and purchase some of the gear you might have found at the Eagle Leather booth at the Oyster Run.
Read moreWhen confronted with a tragedy
What does the typical motorcyclist do when confronted with a tragedy and people in need? Rush to help, that’s what. Now, much of the Pacific Northwest is afflicted with wildfires. In some places, whole towns have been destroyed. In most places, people have had to flee their homes and don’t know what they will find when they return.
Read moreFirst date on a motorcycle ride.
Talk to your date about what to wear. If your date wears earrings, suggest a small stud because larger earrings can be painful under a helmet. Glasses, too, can be a problem under a tight helmet. Some hairstyles, such as a bun, can be painful under a helmet. The best option for long hair is a ponytail secured at the neck. This avoids tangles and keeps hair out of the face when the wind whips it. A bandanna used as a headwrap is also a good idea. Of course, your date won’t
Read moreWet Gear Can Be Dangerous.
Few things are more uncomfortable than riding a motorcycle in wet gear. And riding while wet can be dangerous too. It raises the possibility of hypothermia, and, at a bare minimum, the discomfort can distract you when you need all your concentration to manage a slick road surface.
Read moreThe easiest way to plan a getaway
The easiest way to plan a getaway, whether for an afternoon (or after-work) picnic or for a longer trip is to think about what you’d show a visitor to our part of the world. Tacoma has its share of museums, art galleries, and other indoor attractions. But we’re thinking about going somewhere outdoors, somewhere we can get away from crowds.

Gadgets—those delightful items that make life better. No, you don’t need them. That’s why they’re gadgets and not necessities. I’ve put together a few gadgets you might consider. And, once you have them, you might find they were more like necessities after all.
Read moreWhat you need to know about Sturgis 2020!
Covid 19 has led to the cancellation of many events—but not the big rally at Sturgis, South Dakota. From August 7 through August 16, the town will welcome motorcycle enthusiasts with a full slate of music, special rides, and good fellowship. The city will set up hand sanitizing stations downtown and will sanitize sidewalks nightly. All city employees will have PPE, and the city will help vendors who cannot provide PPE for their employees. Vendors need to take special precautions this year. For instance, they have a limit on the number of people who can enter buildings or tents based on city occupancy rules. They must post that number on a sign, which also says: “It is your personal choice and responsibility if you enter. You should maintain social distancing of 6’ between parties including at the register.” They must have hand sanitizer handy and encourage employees to use it often. They must ensure every employee has a mask and promote using them when the employee cannot be six feet away from other people.
