Jun 23, 2022 Damien Heenan

We’ve all heard at least one story about someone who’s had a motorcycle accident. Some people are lucky, others not so much. Sadly, some never make it.The lucky ones recover fully, the not so lucky have their lives changed forever. And those who don’t make it are mourned by the ones who love them.Gary Busey comes to mind. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, Busey was a serious motorcycle enthusiast. In 1988 he was severely injured in an accident when while NOT wearing a helmet. His skull was fractured as his head collided with the curb. This caused permanent brain damage, and as a result Busey now speaks and acts impulsively and without social filters.Had Busey been wearing a helmet, his life today could be much different.

Why Are Motorcycle Helmets So Controversial

Jun 22, 2022 Damien Heenan

If you’ve been around motorcycle culture a while, I’m sure you’ve heard things like “let those who ride decide”, “my life, my choice”, or “I know someone who was injured because they were wearing a helmet”. But if you ask most bikers if they think wearing a helmet offers protection, most will agree they do – and not only from crashes but from weather as well. And when someone asks if they think a child should wear a helmet when riding, it’s almost always a yes. Teens? A big thumbs up for them as well. But once someone hits 18, that’s when opinions start to shift.
