Two Great Rides for the Next Two Weekends

October 12, 2012

Be sure to save the date for two great rides that will make you feel good about your driving and good about yourself! This Saturday be sure to turn out for Bikers Against Statewide Hunger's Annual Turkey Run; and on Sunday, October 21, be sure to attend Eagle Leather's free ride clinic and demo "Riding in the Rain."

Help Feed the Needy for Thanksgiving

Even though Bikers Against Statewide Hunger (BASH) has a year-round mandate to help feed hundreds on a daily basis,
it prides itself in being able to provide about 400 "Turkey Baskets" to families for Thanksgiving.

The fee for riding in the Turkey Run is $20 and that buys about two turkeys -- BASH get's special pricing for purchasing in bulk. That means 200 riders can fund about 400 turkeys! Here are specifics for the ride:

Name: Turkey Run
Date and Time: Saturday, Oct. 13, 10 AM, Rain or Shine
Where: BASH Office, 118 141st St Ct S, Tacoma, 98444
Donation: $20 and any dry or canned goods you can donate
Wrap: The Right Spot around 3 PM

But budget cuts have forced BASH to raise an added $4000 for this year's Thanksgiving dinners, and the group is appealling for added contributions in the form of dry and canned foods (stuffing, chicken stock, canned yams, corn and string beans) and cash.

Eagle Leather has pledged as much as $400 in a food for cash initiative
that has already started and will run until November 18. Regardless of whether or not you can join the Run on Saturday, stop by either Eagle Leather location now thru Nov. 18 and drop off food for BASH. Eagle Leather will collect the food, deliver it to BASH and contributed $1 for every 2 pounds of food brought into the store for the effort -- up to $400!

Fear the Rain No More! Hands-on clinic and demo is Sunday, Oct. 21

Area riding pros Chris Johnson of Washington Motorcycle Safety Training and Bret Tkacs of Puget Sound Safety are teaming up with Eagle Leather to host a first of its kind clinic we are calling "Ride in the Rain."

Lucky Participant will Win Gerbings

To make the event more fun, Eagle Leather will give away a Microwire Heated Jacket Liner by Gerbings Heated Clothing valued at $219.95. Registered participants will receive their drawing ticket at sign-in in Lakewood between 9:30 and 10 AM, then must be present to win at the drawing that will be held in Auburn just about 1:30 PM. Five other door prizes will also be given to randomly drawn participants at the same time.

There is no fee for this event but seats are limited to 150 riders and registration is required. Here are event specifics:

Name: Ride in the Rain: Demo and Skills Clinic

Following a clinic on group riding led by Tkacs and a brief introduction to rain gear by Eagle Leather, Johnson will head up a demo in the parking lot on special techniques for handling slippery and wet surfaces. After that, the group is set to ride on their own to Eagle Leather Auburn where Johnson will take on questions and answers. After that, Tkacs will lead the group back inside for a discussion on new licensing requirements.
