Cardo Mesh Boost: Bigger Groups, Easier Setup and Public Mesh

Cardo has released Mesh Boost, a major update to its Dynamic Mesh Communication system. It expands supported private groups to as many as 31 riders, introduces an open Public Mesh mode and makes it much easier to create and manage riding groups.

For PACKTALK owners with a supported device, the upgrade is free and delivered through the Cardo Connect app. (Supported devices listed at bottom).

Here’s what is changing and what you should know before updating.

Up to 31 Riders in One DMC Group

The previous 15-rider limit has been expanded to support groups of up to 31 riders.

There is one important condition: every rider in the group must have a Mesh Boost-compatible device with the latest firmware installed. If even one member is using a device without Mesh Boost, the entire group will be limited to 15 riders.

For smaller groups, the experience remains familiar. For clubs, organized tours and larger group rides, the higher limit means more riders can now stay connected through a single DMC group.

Public Mesh: Connect Without Creating a Group

Public Mesh removes the usual group-creation process.

Select Public Mesh in the Cardo Connect app, and your unit will automatically communicate with other nearby Cardo riders who are using the same mode. There are no invitation links, pairing sequences or group admins.

This makes Public Mesh especially useful for:

  • Dealer demo rides

  • Training courses

  • Charity rides and rallies

  • Motorcycle events

  • Informal rides where people may join or leave throughout the day

Public Mesh is an open conversation, so it is best suited to situations where riders want quick, convenient communication. For a private conversation with your regular riding partners, create a private DMC group instead.

Build Your Group Before Ride Day

Remote Grouping lets riders create and join private DMC groups even when they are not together.

A group member can generate an invitation link or QR code through the Cardo Connect app and send it by text, email or another messaging service. Riders can accept the invitation ahead of time, avoiding the familiar parking-lot pairing session before departure.

Multiple groups can also be saved in the app, making it easier to switch between different riding clubs, friends or events without rebuilding each group.

Improved In-Person Grouping

Riders without Mesh Boost can still join a compatible group in person, but the order of the pairing process matters.

The existing group member with Mesh Boost should begin by selecting “Connect Nearby” in the Cardo Connect app. Only after that should the rider being added start grouping on their unit.

When pairing directly from the devices, the Mesh Boost user should also start the grouping process first. This gives the group the best chance of being created with the correct Mesh Boost capabilities.

Remember that adding a rider without Mesh Boost will limit the group to 15 members and may make some of the new features unavailable.

Clearer Group Management

The updated Cardo Connect experience includes redesigned intercom screens, simpler invitation tools and a dedicated list of saved groups.

Group names and images are shared among members, helping everyone identify the correct group and reducing confusion when riders belong to several different groups.

The currently active group is clearly marked in the app, and riders can move between saved groups without recreating them each time.

Before You Install the Update

There are a few things to know before upgrading:

  • Installing Mesh Boost will delete the DMC groups currently saved on your device. You will need to create or rejoin them after updating.

  • Some settings, including audio profiles, may be reset. Check your preferences when the installation is complete.

  • Mesh Boost requires Cardo Connect version 9.1 or later and compatible device firmware version 5.4 or later. (Update your Cardo Connect app on your smartphones app store)

  • The update is available for supported second-generation DMC products, including PACKTALK Pro, PACKTALK Edge and PACKTALK Neo models.

  • PACKTALK Bold is not compatible with Mesh Boost.

Cardo recommends completing both the app and firmware updates at home, well before your next ride. Do not wait until everyone is geared up and ready to leave.

Why Cardo Took Their Time

Mesh Boost has been in development and testing for much longer than most riders realize.

Expanding a mesh network from 15 riders to 31 may sound simple on a specification sheet. In practice, every additional rider increases the complexity of the network. Cardo had to solve those challenges without compromising the reliability that made DMC successful in the first place.

As Cardo put it: “If adding more riders reduced reliability, it wasn’t worth doing.”

Instead of rushing Mesh Boost to market, Cardo spent months validating the experience, refining the software and gathering feedback from riders and testing teams across a variety of environments and riding situations.

“The goal wasn’t to be first. The goal was to be confident.”

That meant being confident that a rider joining a group of 31 would receive the same dependable experience as someone joining a group of five. It also meant making sure Public Mesh felt effortless and that reconnecting, switching groups and managing larger rides felt natural.

For Cardo, innovation is not simply about how quickly a new feature can be released. It is about how that feature performs when riders depend on it in the real world.

Mesh Boost was released only after meeting the standard Cardo has always set for DMC: it has to work, ride after ride.

Ready to Upgrade?

Before your next group ride, update the Cardo Connect app and check for the latest firmware for your PACKTALK.

Remember that installing Mesh Boost will erase your existing DMC groups. Complete the update at home and give yourself time to recreate your groups, check your settings and send new invitations before ride day.
