The Shoei J-Cruise 3 combines the spacious feel of an open-face helmet with the wind management, sun protection and adjustable comfort that make longer rides easier. Built for urban commuting, cruising and touring, it pairs a full-length clear face shield with a retractable sun visor and a shell developed through Shoei's wind-tunnel testing.
Shell Construction and Protection
- AIM+ composite shell: Shoei's Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus multi-fiber construction works with an impact-absorbing EPS liner.
- U.S. certification: Meets DOT FMVSS No. 218.
- Open-face configuration: Offers an open, unobstructed feel without a chin bar. The face shield is not a substitute for full-face chin protection.
- Micro-ratchet retention: A stainless steel buckle provides convenient adjustment and operation with gloves.
Developed in Shoei's Wind Tunnel
Shoei uses its own wind-tunnel facility to refine the shell, integrated rear spoiler and ventilation components together. The aim is a helmet that manages airflow predictably and reduces the effort of holding your head steady over longer distances.
Shoei reports approximately 5.5% less lift and 4% less drag against its conventional-model baseline at an equivalent 100 km/h. These are manufacturer laboratory reference values, rather than a guarantee of the same result on every motorcycle. Windscreen height, riding position and fit all influence the experience.
Ventilation for Daily Rides and Touring
Revised intake positioning and a redesigned top exhaust improve the movement of warm air out of the helmet. Shoei reports approximately 70% better exhaust performance in its wind-tunnel comparison at 100 km/h. Three outlet holes and carefully shaped vent components help keep air moving through the interior.
CJ-2 Face Shield and QSV-2 Sun Visor
- CJ-2 shield: Shaped for a clear view with minimal optical distortion, with a lower-edge rib that adds rigidity and helps manage airflow.
- Secure closure: The shield locks when fully closed and provides a slightly open position for low-speed ventilation.
- Pinlock-ready: Accepts the CJ-2 Pinlock EVO DKS105 anti-fog insert, sold separately with this U.S. helmet.
- QSV-2 internal sun visor: Retracts when shade is no longer needed and features an anti-fog coating and optical performance comparable to the EN1836 sunglasses standard. This is a visor optical standard, not an additional helmet certification.
Comfort Engineering and Fit Adjustment
The removable interior combines moisture-absorbing, quick-drying fabric in perspiration-prone areas with softer fabric around the opening. The crown pad's pocket design accepts an optional adjustment pad, allowing the fit to be refined without changing the helmet's shell size. A smaller buckle assembly and slimmer strap improve comfort beneath the chin.
SHOEI Comlink Communication Readiness
The dedicated Comlink interface accommodates the optional Sena SRL3 system with a compact, integrated installation. The communicator is sold separately. Gallery images showing an installed microphone or communication controls illustrate the optional setup.
What Has Improved Over the J-Cruise II?
- Updated communication integration: The J-Cruise 3 uses SHOEI Comlink for the SRL3, replacing the previous model's SRL/SRL2 mounting arrangement.
- Reworked ventilation and aerodynamics: Revised vent components and shell shaping benefit from further wind-tunnel development.
- Refined comfort: The compact micro-ratchet assembly and crown adjustment pocket improve everyday fit options.
The CJ-2 face shield remains compatible across the two generations. However, the J-Cruise II's CJ-2 shield base set 2 does not fit the J-Cruise 3, so confirm the exact base mechanism when buying replacement parts.
Colors and Finishes
Choose Matte Black or Matte Blue Metallic for a low-gloss finish, Gloss Black for a polished black appearance, or White, Chalk Grey and Basalt Grey for contrasting solid-color options. The store's Matte Blue selection is Shoei's Matte Blue Metallic finish.
Shoei Size Chart
| Size | Head Circumference (cm) | Head Circumference (inches) |
|---|---|---|
| X-Small | 53-54 | 20 7/8-21 1/4 |
| Small | 55-56 | 21 5/8-22 |
| Medium | 57-58 | 22 1/2-22 7/8 |
| Large | 59-60 | 23 1/4-23 5/8 |
| X-Large | 61-62 | 24-24 3/8 |
| 2X-Large | 63-64 | 24 3/4-25 1/8 |
Measure horizontally around the largest part of your head, approximately one inch above the eyebrows. Use the chart as a starting point and try the helmet on before riding. If between sizes, Shoei recommends trying the smaller size first. The crown and cheeks should feel snug without painful pressure. With the strap fastened, the helmet should pull the skin as you move it and should resist rolling off. Eagle Leather can help assess the fit.
Warranty
Shoei's limited warranty covers manufacturing defects for five years from purchase or seven years from manufacture, whichever comes first. Coverage applies to eligible new helmets purchased from an authorized dealer in the customer's country; damage caused by drops or misuse is excluded. Keep your receipt and register your helmet for warranty support.
