About Motorcycle Riding Gear
Protective riding gear for men, women and kids: jackets, vests, pants, chaps, boots, gloves, armor and eyewear. Pick a category above or browse everything here.
How to Choose Motorcycle Riding Gear
Riding gear is what you wear to protect yourself on the bike. If you are shopping for T-shirts, patches, belts or other casual wear, Biker Lifestyle is the better place to start.
Start with the four basics
- Jacket. The largest piece of protection. Leather resists abrasion; textile and mesh trade some of that for weather protection or airflow.
- Gloves. Your hands go out first in a fall. Choose by season: lightweight or mesh for summer, insulated or heated for cold.
- Boots. Look for ankle coverage, a sturdy sole and a closure that will not catch on the pegs.
- Leg protection. Riding pants, over-pants or chaps. Chaps go over the jeans you already wear; riding pants replace them.
Then match the gear to how you ride
Cruising and club riding usually means leather jackets, vests and chaps. Commuting and touring favor textile gear that handles rain and cold. Hot summer rides call for mesh jackets and gloves. Many riders own more than one jacket for exactly this reason.
Fit decides how well it works
Protective gear only protects when it stays in place. Size charts are on each product page, and you can try gear on at our Lakewood store, where we also do in-store sewing and alterations.

Frequently Asked Questions About Motorcycle Riding Gear
What counts as motorcycle riding gear?
Riding gear is clothing built to protect you on the bike: jackets, vests, pants, chaps, boots, gloves, armor and eye protection. Casual wear like T-shirts, patches and belts is in Biker Lifestyle, and helmets have their own helmet collection.
What riding gear should a new rider buy first?
After a helmet, most riders start with a jacket, gloves and over-the-ankle boots, then add eye protection and riding pants or chaps. Those pieces cover the parts of the body that take the most contact in a fall. You can build from there as you learn how and where you ride.
Should I choose leather or textile riding gear?
Leather offers strong abrasion resistance and suits cruising and club riding. Textile gear is usually lighter, often includes waterproof liners and vents, and works well for commuting and touring in mixed weather. Mesh trades protection from the elements for airflow on hot days. Many riders own both a leather and a textile or mesh jacket.
What motorcycle gear does Washington law require?
Washington requires a helmet for riders and passengers. Eye protection (glasses, goggles or a face shield) is required unless the motorcycle has a windshield. Other gear is not required by law, but it is what protects you in a fall. Check RCW 46.37.530 for the current wording.
How should motorcycle riding gear fit?
Snug enough that it stays in place, with room to move in your riding position. Jackets should cover your wrists and lower back when you reach for the bars, and any armor should sit over your shoulders, elbows and knees. Use the size chart on each product, or try gear on at our Lakewood store.
Can you alter riding gear that does not fit quite right?
Yes. We offer in-store sewing and alterations at our Lakewood store, so gear that is close can often be adjusted to fit. Bring the piece in and our team can tell you what is possible.
