Wild Dream Catcher Patch

Description

The Wild Forever Dream Catcher Ladies Patch measures 3" x 5" (3 inches by 5 inches). It has a heat-sealed backing, so you can iron it on or sew it on to most clothing, including leather.

Every patch ships with this heat-sealed backing, which is what makes both attachment methods possible. Use the method that fits your garment and how permanent you want the hold to be.

How to iron on a patch

  1. Preheat your iron to 325°F to 335°F. Do not use steam.
  2. Press the spot where the patch will go for 25 seconds to warm the fabric.
  3. Position the patch on the garment exactly where you want it.
  4. Place a lightweight cloth over the patch and iron with medium pressure, using a back-and-forth motion, for 15 seconds. The iron should never touch the patch directly.
  5. Turn the garment inside out. Using the same motion, iron the back of the patch area firmly for about 1 minute.
  6. Turn the garment right side out, cover the patch with a clean lightweight cloth, and iron the edges through the cloth to seal them fully.
  7. Let the garment cool completely before wearing.

How to sew on a patch

Hand sewing gives you more control and is easier than a machine when working with leather. Sewing leaves permanent holes, so confirm placement before you start.

  1. Decide where you want the patch and outline the area with tailor's chalk.
  2. Use a sewing pick to open the bottom seam of the garment lining just enough to fit your hand inside.
  3. Rest your inside hand flat between the lining and the outlined area. With your outside hand, position the patch. You can lightly spray leather adhesive to hold it in place, but this is a temporary tack, not a permanent bond.
  4. Thread an upholstery needle with strong nylon thread that matches the patch. Using a thimble, push the needle from inside the garment to the outside so the knot stays on the inside. Pull it through, then bring it back down through the patch and the leather.
  5. Continue this pattern all the way around the patch, keeping stitches close together near the edge for the most secure hold.
  6. When you return to where you started, pass the needle through the first stitch and loop it a few times to tie a finishing knot.
  7. Restitch the garment lining. You are all set.

Frequently asked questions

Can a patch be ironed on?

Yes. The heat-sealed backing lets you iron it onto most clothing. Set the iron to 325°F to 335°F with no steam, and always keep a cloth between the iron and the patch.

What temperature should I use to iron on a patch?

325°F to 335°F. Do not use steam, and never let the iron touch the patch directly.

Can I put this patch on a leather jacket?

Yes. You can iron it on, but sewing gives the most secure, permanent hold on leather. Keep in mind that sewing leaves permanent holes, so plan your placement first.

How do I get the strongest hold?

Sew the patch on with strong nylon thread, keeping stitches close together near the edge. For an iron-on hold, seal the edges through a cloth and let the garment cool fully before wearing.
