When they retired, Sam and Susie bought a home in the northern mountains where they could ride their motorcycles on lovely, lonely roads and trails. Two elderly sisters owned the house and had lived there for over thirty years.
All went well until the first sub-freezing night. Susie and Sam woke shivering to find their breath coming in clouds, the water pipes frozen, and the inside of the windows coated with frost. Clearly the little old furnace was not up to the challenge.
Sam called the realtor who’d sold them the house. “How did those old ladies live here without heat in the winter.”
“Oh, they’d drain the pipes and spend the winter in Arizona.”
