Choose a bike that fits. Be aware that even small-displacement engines make bikes more nimble than they used to be—so test drive. Motorcycles with anti-lock brakes (ABS) are about a third less likely to be involved in a crash than those without. ABS helps you keep steering control while braking and helps prevent skidding.
